Malongo School, Uganda

Primary School in Uganda

Rianna’s Fund first visited Malongo in 2011 and were introduced to a wonderful community.

Malongo Primary School is situated East of the Ugandan capital, Kampala in the Mayuge District.

Rianna’s Fund first visited Malongo in 2011 and met a wonderful community that had set up a school in response to the lack of schools in the area. The community’s resources were very limited but they had a good number of children arriving at the school for lessons, and as always children were eager to learn and impeccably behaved.

There were only 3 schools in the district with hundreds of children to 1 teacher

Since we first supported Malongo the school has grown into a 12 classroom school and has over 500 pupils. As well as funding brick classrooms Rianna’s Fund has been able to sponsor a girls and boys dormitory, latrines, fencing to secure the school and teachers housing, a facility that is vital for attracting and retaining good quality teachers, especially in rural areas where there is limited accommodation options for traveling teachers. The school has developed well and the area has benefited enormously. Good teaching at the school means children are achieving good results and passing exams. Malongo is a wonderful school and recently performed very well in examinations, beating the district average in national league tables.

The school is lead by Beatrice Nabacwa with 12 teaching staff. Malongo School was funded by Rianna’s Fund and we continue to monitor it’s progress and look forward to seeing how the school continues to develop.
